This medicine may also be used in combination with anti-ulcer medicines to treat specific types of stomach ulcers. It can also be used to prevent specific bacterial diseases. Clarithromycin is known as a macrolide anti-microbial. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This anti-infection treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral diseases (such as the common cold, influenza). Using any anti-infection when not needed may not be effective for future diseases.
