Salicylic Acid 6% (w/w) Cream is a topical treatment for hyperkeratotic skin conditions such as verrucae, ichthyoses, keratosis palmaris, plantaris, keratosis pilaris, pityriasis rubra pilaris, psoriasis (including body, scalp, palms, and soles). Use in Podiatry: A topical medication for removing excess keratin from the dorsal and plantar hyperkeratotic lesions is salicylic acid 6% (w/w) Cream. Verrucae plantares have been successfully treated with 6% salicylic acid topical formulations.
Salicylism could be brought on by prolonged use over a sizable region, particularly in children and people with severe renal or hepatic impairment. More than what is required to cover the affected area with the product will not provide a greater therapeutic benefit. Where there is a risk of toxicity, concurrent use of other medications that could raise serum salicylate levels should be avoided. The area to be treated should be restricted in young children and patients with renal or hepatic impairment, and they should be continuously watched for signs of salicylate toxicity, such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, hearing loss, tinnitus, lethargy, hyperpnea, diarrhea, and psychological disorders.
The ideal application technique is to fully cover the treatment region with 6% Salicylic Acid (w/w) Cream at night after bathing and before going to bed. The skin should ideally be moist for at least five minutes before application. The drug is washed off in the morning, and a bland cream or lotion may be administered if excessive drying and/or irritation are noticed. Once the condition has cleared, using Salicylic Acid 6% (w/w) Cream on occasion usually keeps the condition in remission. Application may be done more often in places where occlusion is difficult or impossible; hydration by moist packs or baths prior to the application appears to enhance the efficacy.
For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and other mucous membranes.
