A fluoride anti-cavity agent called sodium fluorophosphate is used to both prevent and cure tooth caries. To help prevent cavities, sodium monofluorophosphate is used in over-the-counter dental preparations.
In addition to brushing twice daily with a toothpaste that contains at least 1,350 ppm fluoride, they should be used every day. Rinses should be done separately from brushing to avoid washing toothpaste off your teeth, which would lessen the fluoride's positive benefits.
